  1. Is it possible to insert text into mpegs (SVCD)?

I have some home VHS tapes and old anime that I want to make into SVCD's and it would be nice to add text and titles to them.

I have found that after much trial and error over the past few months that PowerVCR captures the best for me. Even though AVI is the preferred format for video editing, I just cant seem to work out all the bugs in my set-up to allow for good .AVI captures (frame drops, synch issues, freezing). Capturing direct to MPEG2 works perfect when i use PowerVCR, so that's what i prefer to use. It boils down to either having a crappy quality capture card or my 761/VIA chipset isnt ideal for doing this type of stuff.

(History: As far as AVI captures go- Ive tried almost all of the programs in the "tools" area, plus a handful of ones not in the list, and basically they all sucked. I tried to the generic drivers instead of the ATI 7.1's and that didnt help. Everything is tweaked and my computer runs perfectly)

    Thanks for any advice,

My specs are in my signature.

  2. Can't believe you can capture to MEPG-2 but can't capture to AVI with good quality.

Yes, you can add tiltles and text to your MPEG-2, but it also depends on how you want to do it. The simplest is to add some introductory titles and texts in front of your MPEG-2. If you want to superimpose titles and texts on to your MPEG-2, it becomes much more complicated. I am afraid that you can't do it without re-encoding. That's why you should capture to AVI in the first place, it keeps best quality and is much easier to edit.

  4. Thanks for your replies.

I cant capture bigger than 240 x 320 (or whatever it is, its close to that).

I have installed VideoWave 5 and have successfully made a 3 minute test clip (AVI) and was able to add text easily. Tonight I'll experiment with a full movie.

As far as VirtualDub, VirtualVCR, and all the other tools, I have had too many glitches with all of them especially regarding sound cutting out.
Even Premiere 6 has given me some headaches- mainly becasue of its complexity.

Videowave is really easy to use and works so far.
