I just tried the VCD header trick to play MPEG-2's on my [NTSC] Sony DVP-C600D. I ran the Mpeg-2 through TMPGenc Mpeg Tools using the standard MPEG-1 template. I then burned it using the latest version of VCDEasy. I tried playing back the new Mpeg in Windows Media and got nothing but a black screen but the audio was fine. I then tried the CD in the Sony and (this is the weird part), it only showed the top left quarter of the video while it played! I then tried Power DVD and it played the CD fine.
The specs of the video are:
Resolution: 480 x 576
Framerate: 25 fps (PAL)
I suspect it has something to do with the resolution. Anyone have any clues on this one? I am happy that I have gotten somewhere with my picky Sony machine.
Also, another weird fact is that the Mpeg file is ~700mb and is 40 min in length. The DVD Player reads it as 70 min in length, is this normal?
