How can i do this? my subs are in .sub format. I'd like to correct a few spelling mistakes

You first have to convert the .sub (that is the subtitles in image format) to some text format. This can be done with SubConvert that uses fancy OCR technique to convert the images into editable text. You can then edit the text to your hearts content.
But first make sure that the .SUB isn't already in text format - it may already be!
Take a look under EDIT / How to add Subtitles and/or easydivx.does.it (under help) for more info.

you see i opened the .sub file in notepad, and it appears to be in text format :

Yes, that ought to be possible. I've not worked much with subs (just added some .sub (image) using VDub), but I gather that those numbers in curly brackets are frames (start/end). There's just one way of finding out, isn't it?
