  1. Well I'm using DVDX to encode some .ifo files i ripped with smartripper. When I try to open the ifo file in dvdx 2.0 it come up with the input settings screen and after i hit ok, it gives me an error. Auth.dll: Can't authenticate drive. Disk may not be locked..........I'm not sure what the problem is. It work fine when my os was win me but yesterday I upgraded to XP professional. I know this has the be the problem but not sure what i should do?
    Thx,

I have been getting the same msg with win98se but just ignore it and it works fine. As far as I know I didn't mix the auth.dll between versions.

If you can't get past it then try opening the DVD with windvd or powerdvd and play a bit.

I think DVDx uses the same functions internally as smartripper.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  3. The only problem is that when I get that error, DVDX locks up. 1 time if went ahead and loaded the ifo file and i encoded it but now it just locks up.
    Thx

I just re-tested dvdx 2.0 to check my msg. If you choose open DVD root and chose the longest track (time) it opens with no msg. Maybe you could try that.

More info... I think this is it.

I am pretty sure that your aspi layer is causing the problem.

When I run smartripper 2.41 I use the bat file included which sets the run time options to not use the aspi and I have no problem otherwise I lock up.

I forgot that I have been running that way for a while. I didn't want to load another aspi version because I didn't know if it would conflict with something else and I don't have time to track problems right now.

Check it out. Theres a set on the CLADDVD site for XP and non xp. v4.60

Why are you not using the built in rip function in DVDx its based on smartripper?

1- In case you don't have all the right files extracted. Test this even if you prefer another method. (see point 3 also) Use DVDx to rip the files from the DVD. If the original is not available test with another.

2- Are you using the right version of DVDx P4 for Pentium 4 and other for all other CPU types

3-Did you try opening with file...open dvd root as I also mentioned.

4- If all else fails try to install the CLADVDXP aspi XP is v 4.7...??

  10. It's weird if I uncheck the demarcovision and just use aspi i don't get that error. Now thought I get an error mpeg2 Error: Durin intialisation...And now this error is happening all the time.

What is the url to get the aspi on claddvd?

Caution it will not remove macrovision if you click it off. Unless its off your HD and the macro is already off from a previous rip.

I rip with both on demacro and aspi and don't seem to have your problem. When I use open IFO get the msg I just ignore and it goes ok. If I use open "root" don't have msg and runs ok

I use P4 cause I have a P4 and faster but both verions work.

Sorry forgot the link (edited to clarify link) to CladDVD

    http://www.clonead.co.uk/

You may get a "gator" popup...say no if you don't want to install. It has nothing to do with the app or the drivers.

  13. Ok I got the new aspi layer. It's still not working. Maybe if I could figure out what's causing the second error I might be able to make due like you are. The second error i get is mpeg2dec: error during decoder intialisation.

What do you use for ripping. I use smartripper 4.0?

smartripper 2.41 with noaspi bat or dvdx 2.0 P4 version and either choose open ifo or open DVD root. With DVDx I have macro and aspi checked on.

Remember that I am not on XP I still use win98se.

I know you would love to solve this but if you are stuck sometimes you have to change the tools so you don't get frustrated.

You could try CLADDVD since you know its XP compatible and tmpgenc to process the mpeg.

PS did you try DVDx open DVD root from an original DVD in the drive???

    PS
The new msg sounds like a plugin error.
Don't want to lead you in error but....
A similar error comes up in avisynth when certain plugins are missing.

We may have to go over this again step by step since a lot has changed since your first post and it can get a bit confusing as to which apps you want to use now.

Its important to know if you are using a ripped file on your HD or an original disk on DVD in your drive.

  16. Hey Man,
I appreciate the help!!! I've been ripping the .ifo files to my HD. I haven't tried opening directly from the root. I don't mind changing tools to something that works. This is the process I used to take in ripping a dvd.

    Rip the dvd with smartripper
Encode the .ifo with dvdx in mpeg2 (SVCD)
Burn the mpeg 2 files with vcdeasy

Do you know of a similar package or method of burning dvd's. I'm not picky but something not really complecated would be cool.

    I'll check into cladDVD.

    Thx,
    Ryan

My only concern is that there could be something wrong with ripped file on your HD and we could be going through this for nothing.

How about testing DVDx with the open dvd root option first and see what you get as msg but don't use the HD file.

Run DVDx,....OPen....DVD ROOT then select the first movie with the largest time. (in case there are 2 versions of the same movie just take the first)

Make sure demacro and aspi options are on.

The rest should be familiar to you just select as usual.

Lets see how far you get. Would be nice to have a phone right now.....No typing.

  18. When I click open dvd root it just brings up the .ifo I've ripped from smartripper. I click select and it doesnt' work.

I intalled dvd2svcd on my comp and it seems to be working. We'll see though. I'm curious to see the outcome!

You would have had to point it to your dvd drive to get a DVD disk instead of the HD dir.

Anyway you can test that another time, if you want to process what is on your HD then by all means use dvd2svcd it will do the job.
