  1. I have used DVDRIPPER to rip a DVD, I then DVD2AVI to create the .WAV and the .d2v files. I then used TMPGEnc to convert the video to an .MPG like the tutorial shows. I used sefy's template and the .MPG ended up 710 megs. Ok, first of all my Media Player will not play the file (do i need a different codec or something?) and second of all the movie was only about 85 minutes long to begin with, so how can I burn 710 megs to a 650 meg CD? Does the burning software compress it or something?

    Thanks

  2. A) What version of media player, get the most recent, should always play an mpeg fine file w/o another needed codec

    B) when storing data on CD, you ignore the MB # and think in turns of mins..650 = 74mins, which in turn if you burn a standard VCD, 1150kb/s video & 224 kb/s audio, you can estimate you movie size to a ratio of 1 min = 1 MB, therefore on a 650/74 mins CD, you can 740 MB worth of video...video info is brun in mode 1 format, data info is burned in mode 2 format..thats why there is a difference

    C) Now the catch is, if you stray from a standard VCD, you can throw that ratio out the window....and then you have to use a bitrate calculator http://www.vcdhelp.com/calc

  3. well, my media player version is 7.01.00.3055.
The file that was created is an MPEG but when I try to play it, it says "An invalid media type was not specified". So now I am lost.

  5. Since you've mentioned you used my SxVCD, then it would explain the trouble you are having, as Media Player does not support the playback of MPEG2 files, not unless you have a MPEG2 Decoder installed, something like: LSX Suite, PowerDVD, WinDVD
As for the burning, if you read the included text file with my Templates you will see that you need to use Nero to burn the file as a Non-Standard Super-Video-CD, but please do check your DVD Player and see if it's on the list of supported players, and if not, I suggest you first try using a CDRW.

  6. I had the same problem with media player, I downloaded Divx 4.0 from the Tools section of this site, and now mine play ok.

You might want to try this if you haven't already.

  7. Divx is an entirely different coding format...it won't help him. Sefy's comment about needing an MPEG2 decoder is almost certainly the correct solution.

  8. the movies play fine in Power DVD, so I guess I need a codec, anyone have a suggestion as to which one to get?

  9. If you have PowerDVD in your computer, There should not be any problems to play movie with Media player. Try to uninstall and re-install Power DVD, that might help.

  11. It sometimes happesn that PowerDVD codecs don't get intergrated with Media Player, and as suggested, uninstalling and reinstalling could help, and as for a MPEG2 Codec, you can also install LSX Suite v2.0 it will install the codecs into Media Player and you will be able to play any variation of MPEG.
