I have a AVI file with very low resolution and I was wondering if there are any good freeware program that can let me change the resolution and output a new file with the same (AVI) format. I know TMPGEnc lets you change resolution setting but I'm not sure if saves as AVI files.

    Thanks

  2. To change the resolution you would have to re-encode using the same codec as before, or a different one if you wish. I would suggest virtualdub to do this. However, you are unlikley to make it look any better. Around here the general rule of thumb is Garbage in = Garbage out.

are you sure that if you change the resolution the movie file won't look any better, because think about if you increase the resolution from 352 x 240 pixels to let's say 640 x 480 pixels the pixels will definetly decrease in size and this should give you a better quality.

If your file has 352 x 240 pixels than some application must compute aditional pixels and it can only do that by some form of interpolation. And pixels on your monitor or TV are always of same size.
