    video: 2075kbit avg. 2450kbit max 3-Pass VBR
    audio: 224kbits 44.1khz

I open virtualdub add subtitler filter and start frameserver

  2. OPTION 1: Deinterlacing For TV/Film/Any Video Source:
    1. Use Smart Deinterlace filter (eliminates 80-90% of the interlaced lines).
    2. Use Blur filter (eliminates the rest of the lines).
    3. Use Sharpen filter (makes the picture clear again without bringing back the lines)
    4. Use subtitle filter (Vobsub?).
    5. Last use Smart Resize filter. (Always use precise bicubic)
    6. Frameserve
    7. Encode as Progressive video (looks great on TV, Computer, HDTV)

OPTION 2: Deinterlacing Only For Film Video Source (best quality for film):
    0. Frameserve from VirtualDub
    1. Inverse Telecine in Tmpgenc
    2. Encode as Progessive video w/ 3:2 pulldown

Since, your source is Austin Powers, a film, you should use OPTION 2 for optimal quality. OPTION 1 should work fine as well.

Could it be the order of filters? Using Option 1, it's important thet the subs are added next to last, before the resize filter.

  6. Hi.

Sorry, but I am a little confused here!

If the source is a DVD, then the video file is a MPG-2. I tought that you can not open a MPG-2 in VDub. So how are you going to add subtitles to a MPG-2 frameseving from VDub to SVCD in TMPGEnc?

From the guide the only two ways to add subtitles to a DVD Rip is using Flask or DVDX. Am I correct?

    Thank you

  7. First i use dvd2avi to extract the sound, which also creates a .d2v file
Then i use ssa2srt to make the ssa

Now i make a filename.avs with the script in it.

    LoadPlugin("f:\movies\DVD2SVCD\SimpleResize\Simple Resize.dll")
    LoadPlugin("f:\movies\DVD2SVCD\MPEG2Dec\mpeg2dec.d ll")
    mpeg2source("d:\movie\movie.d2v")

Then in virtualdub you open the filename.avs which also opens the mpg file.
And then i can add subs and start frameserver

  8. Ops!

I was looking for a guide to do that, but never found it. Now, I know it can be done.

I'm still not sure how you did it. Anyway, thank you again and sorry for disrupting your post.

    THX

  9. Try this:
When you use DVD2AVI , select video -> field Operation -> Forced Film.
    Save your D2v file.
    Check your results.
