Hi,

I'm having somewhat of an odd problem in attempting to author with Scenarist. The set up is as follows:

-The disk contains three 20min TV sitcoms.

-Video for each was encoded to .m2v using TMPGEnc 2-pass VBR 3000-9200-9400.

-Audio for each was encoded to AC3 stereo 192kbps using BeSweet's ac3enc.

-In scenarist, each episode is added to VTS_1 as its own PGC.

-There are three still menus (the first one being marked as the title menu) added under the English language folder in the VMG. Each of these menus consists of a still background image (originals in 24-bit BMP format), a subpicture overlay, and three buttons: next, play, and prev.

My problem is this. I build the project, to get a VIDEO_TS folder. I use WinDVD to test play from that folder - everything works fine. I then burn the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder to DVD-R/W with my Pioneer 104 using Nero Express 5.5.9.6. I test the disc in my DVD-Rom drive also using WinDVD, and everything works fine. I then test the disk in my set-top player (Toshiba SD3800), and that's where the problem starts. Everything about the disk works fine, with one exception - in any of the three menus, the backgrounds refuse to display. The subpicture overlay displays fine, so I can see the highlighted parts of my buttons as I switch between them, and select them. The background just isn't there - in its place, I see whatever was the last screen to be displayed before entering the menu.

It seems to me that this has to have something to do with the way the disk is being authored in Scenarist. I know my set-top player can handle DVD-R/W fine, since the disk DOES play, and I can't imagine it would be a burning problem, either - again, since the disk plays at all.

Any ideas?

If anyone needs more details on exactly how things are set up in Scenarist, I would be happy to provide them - it just might take some lengthy description and/or screenshots.

Thanks,
Windex
