converting svcd or vcd to dvd

I'm new and shaky at this.Is it possible to convert vcd's or svcd's
to dvd. I have a hard drive full of captured avi files, captured with PE.
I would like to get them compressed
but not at this time to dvd.I can do
vcd's.But since I do not have a dvd
burner or a dvd player, I would like
to start off with vcd's
