I may only add one caution:

If you plan to distribute them in any manner then you need the permission of the author or you have to either make your own (not copied) or find some public domain clips.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  4. Ulead has a product called Pick-A-Video which are Royalty Free video for motion menus etc.

    http://www.ulead.com/

Choose Royalty Free Media from the left menu bar

They also have quite a few free downloadable samples.

Another sourse is Studio 8 - If you look in the subdirectory chain for montion menus you will find a bunch of AVI files which can be used as motion backgrounds in any program.

Finally there is program Called Video Explosion a 4 disk set that has lots of goodies as well as stock video clips, and motion menu clips which are all Royalty Free.

    Have fun

Thank´s for the suggestions and links.
    As I have Studio 7 , I will upgrade to Studio 8.
I would be interested to know about the stuff that comes with Video Explosion.
On the other links some expensive stuff ( at least for me ).
Found a product that might interest some of you : MainVision.
    Have a look at : www.mainconcept.com

  6. Studio 8 has been a rough transition. The product on launch could best be described as BETA. It was so full of problems I put it away for a month or two.

I beta tested 3 corrections and they recently released theri first "update". While there are still a lot of problems it is at least workable now.

I have been using Ulead DVD Workshop quite a bit and have been having fun with it.

I created a motion menu with two Motion Icons ( small clip from each chapter).

    Hi Troy01,

I use DVD Workshop for authoring.
I use the motion thumbnails also. It's cool.
The forum on Ulead is pretty slow going. Not many replies.
I have some questions. Can you help ?
1 - How to avoid background music starting over when you change from one menu to another ?
2 - If I make a 10 sec video clip to use as motion background, when simulating project at the Finsish Step, there seems to be an interval just before the video loops. Will that happen when I burn my DVD ?

I use Studio7 just for capturing with my Studio DV capture card.
Which is the updated version of Studio 8 ? 8.????.???
I am interested on the motion menus that come with it.
    Are they really fancy ?

MainVision can be complex, but if you are interested on simply generating random motion textures for background, it is simple. If you would like to know, just ask.

How about the stuff from Video Explosion ? Do you have it ? Is it worth the price ?

    Thank's again. Keep in touch.

  8. Well in Ulead DVD Workshop you have probably already noticed that the menus can be a little quirky. e.g when you shift to a second menu the first clip is not always the one that is automatically selected.

I ususally build my menu structure from scratch. Generally I am making a DVD with 2-3 movies.

I create the Main menu with a connection to each of the movies. The sub-menues then point to chapters in the movie.

If I have Music on M1 - I first link the motion clip as a button then link the menu 2 to the button. If you unclick the background music on the second menu the music will only play on M1.

If you autogenerate multipage menus to M1 you are stuck with music on all the M1 and M1 daughters.

As for Video explosion the clips are ok but not worth the money. I had downloaded them from a newsgroup ... multimedia.utilities As they are royalty free I am not sure of thier copyright status but I am just using them to play and am not creating anything commercial.

    Hi ,

    Troy01 :

On DVDWS, kind of the same time of projects I do.

Maybe I did not make myself clear :

I DO want to have background music on all Menus. Problem is, when you go from one menu to another, music starts from beginning. Is there a workaround so as to have the music play seamlesly while navigating through the menus ?

How about my second question :
    - If I make a 10 sec video clip to use as motion background, when simulating project at the Finsish Step, there seems to be an interval just before the video loops. Will that happen when I burn my DVD ?

As for the Video Explosion menus [snip - asking for warez]

    Thank's.

I can't help you much here as I find motion menus are too busy for me. My authoring has gone from the complex to the simple since most of all of the people who play my DVDs only look at the authoring the first time unless it is an educational DVD. Personally, when I buy a DVD I look at the authoring once or twice and from then on I just hit play. The same holds true for credits.
