  1. I am sure it is probably my lack of knowledge in converting a downlaoded
AVI to a VCD. I have been able to convert to a VCD but qualtiy is terrible.
I have used virtual to DUB to add filters and created a temp AVI file but this did not yield good results. I have tried to encode the AVI downladed file directly no success either. The picture is pixelated and dark. Any suggestions

  2. What kind of AVI is it?
Low resolution with a very low bitrate (e.g small file size)

You will NOT get a good VCD result becuase
if crap is going in, crap will come out during the mpeg encoding.

tmpgenc with 2pass and motion search: highest
is a most to even try to get a good result.

Try to RIP a DVD so you can play around with good source.

    I agree.....You cant polish a turd.

For downloading.... I only mess with those avi's in the over 650mb range...usally around 700mb or more yeild excellent results...I know these take longer to download....but if you cant watch the 400mb ones (usally like 200mb x 2 parts) how much time do you save?? Problem is that when they compress down so far you loose a lot ov the bitrate (quality ) needed to make a descent VCD.

If you want email me...for good ones to experiment on.
