I really have no idea what to do. I've downloaded some music videos from Kazaa and am looking to burn them onto a CD in VCD form. I don't have any software right now and am trying to decide which program to download. VCDEasy looks simple enough to use. Is this a good pick?

    Thanks for your help.

Yes.....I find it produces good quality VCD's with no problems.
Like anything else,it takes a couple of times to get the hang of it.

VCD easy can be quite daunting for a beginner. try nero from www.ahead.de ..

How can I tell if they are in standard format?

  5. in nero select the "video CD" template and drag your video file in. nero will check to make sure it's compatible and if it's not a pop up will appear asking you to re-encode it. you can re-encode with nero but it's not the best quality encoder, you're better off re-encoding with tmpgenc.

  7. Most music videos downloaded from Kazaa are in MPEG format.
To make it VCD or SVCD compatable you would have to use TMPGE to convert it.
    Read this:

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

You can encode with Nero , but its not very good.
Nero is a popular choice of many for burning but I personally had too many problems with freezing.
So,I now use VCDEASY and have never looked back.
    Over 300 burns and counting.

do you mean freezing when playing back the VCD's, or during burning itself?

i've never had any problems with either.

yes, VCD easy is a good program, but i think nero is a lot simpler to use for a newbie

    Freezing at 99% into burn.
I think initially by looking at Nero ,it may appear easier.
But, with VCDEASY ,after you set the Generic driver and other CDRAO settings etc, you never have to touch them again.

If I were to try one of the Nero demos, which one will let me burn VCDs? I looked at the demos and can't tell which one to download.
