  1. I wonder if anyone can help a complete newbie to vcd's. I d/l an avi file. It plays perfectly on my comp (using media player) so I presume I have the right codec for it. (just in case I have alredy d/l and installed codecs 3.11, 4 & 5). I have tried to convert the avi file to mpg1and that's where it all went horribly wrong.

When I tried with tmpenc I got an mpg file, but when I try to play this file all I get is a blank screen. While tmpg was encoding the "position in source" counter went up to double the length of the movie before it had finished.

So I tried with cinemacraft and I got the message "read only 0 bytes while expecting 8 bytes".

So I tried using VCDcutter to convert it and I got the message "input avi audio must be 8 or 16 bit!, this file is 0 bits".

Is the file I got corrupt (even though it plays perfectly) or am I doing something wrong.

If anyone can explain to this complete nebie in words of 1 sylabol (or less ) I would greatly appreciate it.

PS I know my programs work ok as I have converted another file with no probs at all!

    This look familiar?:
If you get an error message when opening the video or audio like file unsupported
or you get an empty(black) video preview window
or the video look wierd in the video preview window like green or purple or pink
Be sure that you have installed the DivX Codecs (both DivX 3.11, 4 and 5) and also try with the Nimo Codec Pack. If that does not work try to change the codec reader settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 and try open the video.
