dv captured thru premeire shows time is about 5min30sec.
using the panasonic codec to open the avi in cce. when i encode using CCE vbr, it comes out saying the clip is only 3min45sec. BUT, when the mpg is played from begining to end it doesn't stop at 3:45 it keeps going until the end actual film length. making the mpg skip to the end, makes it go to the real end of the film, not 3:45. why is it doing this?
also, it's got wiggles in it on straight lines. but only when the window size is small. goes away when it's increased.
second note neither of these problems when i use tmpg. any body know why cce is doing this?

It happens to me occasionally also. Be sure you dont encode sound. Also, make sure there are no errors with your avi source.
Use bbmpeg to multiplex since you will do sound separate.
Most likely, its a bad avisoure to start with... try to clean it with vdub(scan for errors). -
virtualdub reports no errors on avi's. i captured from my D8 cam via firewire. i can't for the life of me figure out why it's doing it. i'm just hoping it won't be a problem when i try to mux them. deinterlacing removed those wiggles (figured it was something to do with that).
problem seems to happen on all my clips, from a 60sec one, to a 30 min one. none of the mpgs show the correct length. reported time length is about 33% less than it really is. dont know why 33% is the magic number. but i got a mpg of a 57sec clip showing it's only 38sec. a 5:37 showing it's 3:45, and so on. all of them like this. -
I'm just a newb, so I don't know much of anything, but 3:2 seems to be the ratio between the correct length and the reported length.
My initial thought was 3:2... 3:2 pulldown, but CCE doesn't have that flag.
Something wrong with the frame rate perhaps?
What are the AVI's details? -
I've encountered it when Backing up DVD's. 2 times to be exact. I thought it might be due to using dvd2avi to force fime, but that doesn't seem to be it. The time was was wrong Beforer and after using Pulldown.exe. Funny thing is, loading the files with the wrong time back into CCE it tells me the correct length.

the avi's are 29.97. strait from ntsc dv. i'm not using pulldown.
i finally just gave up and used tmpgplus. my trial's up for CCE and the "patch" doesn't seem to do much for the 30day limit. it's too bad too, because you just can't beat the quality.
also, i notice i kinda get a similar problem with tmpg, but only by like 1 or 2 seconds. it seems to be maybe a VBR thing as far as i can tell. the higher i have the bitrate the more it's off.
