  1. I have divx files in all sorts of different resolutions, and am wondering which sizes are the best suited for vcd and which are best suited for SVCD..

    Thanks

vcd and svcd have default resolutions, if you are using anything else you are creating x(s)vcd.

Whats "best" is relative since what is best to me is not the same as the next person. start with the standards and make your own tests and decide for yourself

  4. I think you may have misunderstood my question..

My divx files have different reslotions, I will be encoding to the standard resolutions (352x240) or(480x480)..

My question was which standard to encode to depending on what my original files are at.

For instance if I have a 320x240 divxMpeg4 Low Motion file(file description from VirtualDub 1.3)..

Should I encode that to vcd or svcd..

Should you only encode to SVCD if your original file is larger than 480x480?

    Yes i did misunderstand.

If you encode something that is 352x240 to 480x480 it would only stretch the imperfections in the video.

Using that logic I would say if its 480x480 or bigger then id probably go with SVCD.

  6. Thanks for the reply,

Is there some good information on aspect ratio's on here I mighta missed.

See if my original file is say 640x272(23.97) Divx5.02 (lord of the rings)
And I encode it to SVCD then its now 480x480, but obviuosly that a different aspect ratio.. So If I convert telling TMPGENC keep my original aspect ration , the result is still a 480x480 but it will still look letterbox.
Does TMPGENC just fill in black borders to do this?
I'm sorry but it gets confusing to me.

Also If I choose full screen(keep aspect ratio) does it stretch my video and make it more blocky, and if I choose center (keep ratio) will it not fill my screen?

I have read through all the guides. I'm just still a little confused.
