okay here's the deal... i am trying to learn all i can on how to make vcds!
let me first say ALL the info and help i have received her was(is) AWESOME! thanks and cudos to all. now having said that, i very much want to make the best vcd i can ... i think i got a good portion of the authoring stuff ok (menus,chapters,ect..) but the true test and iceing on the cake would be to make it with dolby surround! i have read a lot of debates and disscussions on this sub. and a lot of info is out there but there area no guides on it! from what i can see everyone pretty much agrees that its possible to do this, but only in dolby surround (which would give ya 5 chans). thats great! but can anyone tell me in one simple step by step proccess on how to do this? and what programs (that actually work) i will need, and possibly where to get'em (if i dont already have them)... i know this is beating a dead horse and i do not want to start ANOTHER debate. like i said there is a lot of info on it here but is verry hard to find all the good info from the useless debating.... i do not mean to or want to upset anyone or insult anyone.... or worse yet ANNOY anyone with this but i think it would not only benefit me but the whole community as well!
thank you all in advance for the time it took to read this post and for any info given in response..

This is where you made your mistake. Dolby surround is only 4 channels (L,R, Front, Rear) and is multiplexed in with a standard stereo soundtrack. Therefore, if the original source audio contained dolby surround, dolby pro-logic or dolby pro-logic II, and you have a suitable decoder, then this info should be preserved throughout the encoding process, no special steps are required.

Some people claim to have muxed Doby Digital AC3 with SVCD's to get full 5.1 surround sound as you can get from a DVD. I won't say this isn't possible, it obviously is for some, but compatibility with standalone players is going to be VERY poor.

    Hope this helps

    VCD's - No
SVCD - Only mepg multi-channel not Dolby 5.1

Do a search on SVCD and AC3 or 5.1 you will find that many talented people have attempted and failed to multiplex Dolby Digital ( AC3 ) streams with SVCD. I have created .mpg's before but every authoring program I know of barfed saying invalid stream ( even without compliance checking on ).

Mpeg multi-channel appears to be less supported than traditional 5.1 and the players fallback is to just decode L,R.

    Cheers.
