  1. Thanks guys for the help that you've given me so far. I have tried to get a good video quality in vcd, using tmpgenc to encode, and easycd for the burning. The last movie i encoded i increased the birate to 4000, after the encoding finished i attempted to burn to cd. An error appeared telling me i need a mpeg encoder and a capture card. I don't see any freeware for these applications anywhere. Must i purchase either of these programs in order to get half way decent to good looking videos? I just want vcd's to play on my dvd player.

If you increase the bitrate you are making xvcd and easycd can not burn those. Try instead VCDEasy or Nero. But be sure to read our dvd player compatiblity list to see how high bitrate your dvd player supportsor if it support xvcd at all. Most players only support max 2500 kbit/s for xvcd/xscvd/svcd....

What is the source of this error message? Your CD writing software? In that case - use some other authoring software like VCDEasy!

  4. I second the recommendation for VCDEasy.

Also, this other site is geared toward getting the most out of VCD:

    www.kvcd.net

The templates for TMPGEnc offer leaps and bounds over standard VCD. Just make sure you check to see that your player(s) is compatible w/ the templates and you'll be on your way. I use the KVCD PLUS 352x480 template for most everything. You can only tell the difference between the VCD and the source DVD during cross-fades (slight artifacts). There are forums there if you have any questions about the templates.
