svcd vs dix help plzzzzzzz

Ok need some help, i have joined a movie site and have a choice of wot format i can download the movies in ie, divx, svcd, and vcd.

Wot i want to do is download a movie then compress it narrow the bitrate and audio so i can get a full svcd on 2 disks instead of 3. Wot i want to no is if i download it in svcd format and then compress it will it, will it then be xsvcd, as this is no good 2 me as my dvd player doesnt support it.

But if i download the movie in divx and compress it and then change it 2 svcd will it just be normal svcd or xsvcd.

Any tips or help would be most apreciate as its driving me nutts, cant thank any 1 anuff who helps me out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

divx---->convert to svcd, then you can specify the length. ie fit on 2 discs
