Hi,
we are thinking about marketing a Home Theater PC for all kinds of multimedia home entertainment.
One feature will be a DVD player. We will be using a widely available CD/DVD Drive and a DVD software player. Both have licenced the required technology as well as the right to cary the DVD-Logo with the DVD Forum.
We wonder if we need to licence the DVD-Logo from the DVD Forum as well?
Also, we might develop our own user interface for the DVD software player. However, we will use the the DVD software technology such as coded, CSS, etc. from the commercial DVD software player.
We wonder if we need to licence the DVD-Technology from the DVD Forum as well?
I know - this might be a bit too off topic - who might be able to answer this question (besides the DVD Forum itself who did not answer my questions).

I believe PC equipment is exclided from that since it's a general pourpuse computing device not a consumer electonic device.
You will have the DVD logon on the DVD-ROM anyways. -
Using other licenced software is 100% legal as well.
If unsure you can always ask the very nice people over at AV science http://www.avsforum.com/ they also put out their own HTPC.
As long as you are using licenced software ( not decss ) and obeying the intent of the dvd consortium ( don't include DVD genie to change region codgin , ... ) you should be ok. Just don't give them a reason to get you.
