    HI,

I posted this in Newbies a couple of days ago and just thought that I'd give it another try in this section. I sure would appreciate any help that I can get.

I'm having a problem burning a VCD with my NERO 5 (Lite-On) CD Rom. The file which I downloaded from the Internet is a 493 megabyte 39 minute long MPEG 1 LAYER 2 FILM CLIP- 352X240, 29.97 fps, CBR 1150 kbps, and the audio is 44,100 kbps and 224bits.

My NERO 5 won't burn it or similar files and the pop up keeps telling me that I'm trying to create a Super Video (CD-1) which is invalid with an MPEG 1 file. THIS IS NOT THE OPTION THAT I SELECT. I'm just trying to create a regular VCD and I've been told that the above specs are quite standard. If I disregard the warning and attempt the burn anyhow the disc is useless. If I use the Nero encoder it won't play back either.

Ive tried using TMPGE and the pop up said that the file "Can not be created". I've also tried avi2vcd, VOB Instant CD/DVD 6.5, LSX MPEG RECORDER 3.5, and PANASONIC MPEG 1.

PANASONIC MPEG 1 IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKS BUT IS PRICEY.
I was wondering if anybody might know of something that will work as well that's either Freeware or reasonably priced.

MY CLIPS PLAY BACK PERFECTLY ON WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER. I don't have a DVD player and just want to burn a disc that will play back on my computer. Has anybody got any suggestions? Thanks!

  2. If you click on the VCD template in Nero, and drag the mpeg 1 file over and you get a message about creating a SVCD, there is something wrong with your Nero installation. Nero can convert any file to VCD even if teh file was not VCD compliant. You have most likely selected Super-VCD template and not the VCD template in Nero.

  3. Let me get this straight you just want to burn a backup of your mpeg file onto disk to play back on your PC?

Dont bother burning as a VCD then. Merely choose a new data CD in Nero and then drag the mpg file across and it will burn as is.

A VCD is just an mpg file with packaging which allows it a standardisation that will play in DVD players.

BTW have you got the SVCD plugin for Nero installed? This may solve your problem about reencoding.

  4. He's trying to do a VCD !! So the SVCD plugin is not needed in Nero !
Nero should do a VCD/MPEG1 without problems standardly.

Just start Nero. Disable the wizard. Select the VCD template. Drag&drop the mpg file and push Burn.

That's how it should work. If it doesn't work then there must be something wrong with the MPEG file. BTW Nero isn't the best authoring program.... I would try VCDEasy/VCDImager if I were you. In your case it might even tell you what the problem might be.

I think this may just be a case of misinterpreting the message in Nero. Part of the message reads, Stream encoding which is envalid for a [super]video-cd. Means either SVCD or VCD.

  6. Theres something wrong with this picture.

A 39 minute VCD mpeg should not be more than 400MB. 493MB is way to big for a 39 minute clip. Typo? or bad mpeg?

Also if it's a FILM clip, the framerate would not be 29.97.

Try remuxing it with tmpeg. And double check the stream types and bitrates in tmpgenc. Somethings outa whack.

  7. All NTSC video is 29.97 frames per second. Only if you have access to a special source (perhaps DVD) or you do a manual inverse telecine, do you have 24 frames per second. All film for televison is converted to 29.97 frames/second. For best compatibility, always use 29.97 frames per second for NTSC video.

    Hi,

I'd like to thank everyone for their replies but I think that I ought to explain again. The properties on my original file read Mpeg video/audio stream 493 megabytes.

The file plays back perfectly on Windows Media Audio and all that I want to do is to be able to burn the file to a CD so that I can still play it back on Windows Media Player and then delete the file from my hard drive.

My thinking is that if it plays back on WMP the file must have the correct specs without any further encoding yet it won't burn properly.

The new pop up since I updated to the latest Nero software reads"The file is not a valid file for creating a standard CD V2.0 {CD-l player} disc. A compliant video file requires the following specifications Mpeg-1 which was encoded for video cd: audio 44.1 khz stereo 224kbits video 352x240/29.97hz or 352x240/23.97hz or 352x288/25hz. The following problems were found: Stream encoding which is invalid for a (Super) Video CD.

This is what I find so confusing. I'm NOT trying to create a CD V2.0 {CD-1 Player} disc which IS a Super Video CD. When I don't use the wizard I select the CD Video template and when I do use the wizard I click on VCD in the upper left hand corner of the page.

If I ignore the warning and burn anyhow what I wind up with is folders that read CDI, EXT, Mpegav, and VCD which won't play back on Windows Media Player.

If I try to encode the file using the Nero encoder I wind up with a VIDEO 2 MODE 2/XA File that is useless to me.

I sure would appreciate any help that I can get. As I said in an earlier post for some reason the Panasonic Mpeg-1encoder solves the problem but I really can't afford it. I'm hoping that there's an alternative out there that someone might know of. Many Thanks.

  9. No conversion needed if you wanna keep it playing in MindowsMediaPlayer. Just burn it like all your Data CDR's.
    Start Nero
Choose to burn a Data disc
Drag & Drop the mpg file
    Push the burn button.
    Done !

You shouldn't choose the (S)VCD option/template in Nero.
