    evening all.

    mol3000,
Seriously, vdub is what you are looking for. I don't kno whta troubles you
were refering to (other than it's capturing I'll assume) don't let it fool
    you.

Ok, in vudb, if you want to edit multiple segmented AVI's, you have to:
    * always be sure when you are (assuming this is for captures) capturing,
.. you set your segmented files using numbers, ie, I always use 10 as my
.. starting AVI filename. Then, when you capture w/ your app ie, either
.. AVI_IO or vdub, these apps will insert numbers. So, when you named your
.. AVI file to 10, in:
*** AVI_IO, would name each file, ie, 10_0.00.avi, 10_0.01.avi, 10_0.02.avi and so on.
*** vdub, would name each file, ie, 10.00.avi, 10.01.avi, 10.02.avi and so on.
    * Now, in vdub. . .
    * open first avi, (ok to drag the first one)
    * then, File/Append AVI Segment... and look for 10_0.01.avi (if AVI_IO)
    .. or 10.01.avi (if vdub)
    * then [x] Autodetect and vdub will bring in all the remaining segments.
.. this is located at the very bottom left corner. If you don't check this,
.. you'll have only Appended the second avi file. So, make sure that you do.
    * once you [x] that box above, click on the [OK] button, and vdub will
.. proceed to import all those segmented AVI files. When vdub is done
.. importing those files, look down to your lower left, at the bottom of
.. vdbuds window. You should see how many AVI segments it imported.
.. for ie, if you have 3 AVI files to import, ie 10.00.avi, 10.01.avi and
.. 10.02.avi, vdub should display 2 at the bottom... meaning that it had
.. imported 2 segmented AVI files into (at the end of) your current AVI
    .. file already in vdub.
    * however, say you have 3 files (as above) you could save a step, and
.. just use vdub's File/Open and select your main file, starting w/ lowest
.. number, ie, 10.00.avi and again, click the [x] Autodetect box at
.. the bottom of the OPEN window, and vidub will bring in all those AVI files
.. ie, 10.00.avi, 10.01.avi, 10.02.avi, and then this time, you would see a
.. 3 at the bottom left corner of vdubs screen.

That's it. Now, you can edit the clip, ie cut out the commercials.

    Hi Vhelp.

What you describe above Doesn't work for me when I try to open files
in order to Join. -Neither Do I see anything at the bottom left corner of vdubs screen.

When Used with the Append Segmented AVI command It works fine.

This is what I tick in the Open Window...
Automatically Detect and Load additional segments

I`m not capturing , just opening with the aim of joining.-Direct Stream Copy.
Is it not applicable or meant for this?

What am I getting wrong, I`ve always wanted to ask this.

    Thankyou.

    evening mol3000,

well, in vdub, when you want to save an combined (or marked segment) avi
from vudb's timeline, you have to:
    * move selection to... Video/Direct stream copy
    * then, File/Save as AVI...

and finally, the video will be saved, w/out decompressing or recompressing
any of it. This should keep your TOTAL AVI file size at the same size.
    Thats it.

If you want to save an segment of any port of the AVI in vdub's timeline,
    you have to:
    * assuming you wanted to cut out a commercial between your segmented AVI
.. capture of Cosby Show, but it's a preview of a NEW movie, and you feel
.. like doing a test encode or maybe to share w/ friend in divX format...
.. then, in vdub, you would...
    * use the /__ and __\ to select that part of the video in the
.. avi from vdub's timeline, then
    * move selection back to... Video/Full processing mode
    * this is optional... Video/Compressoin... and select a new codec,
.. ie, MJPEG or PIC or Huffy, divX etc.
    * then, File/Save as AVI...
    * then, proceed to continue working on your current video project.

    Thats about it.
Hope that all helped ya and others' out, too.

  16. hi. vhelp.

    Sorry about the abruptness.

I realized that the Automatic option on the Open Window is
only for segments tha Vdub has tagged I think.

    Thanks,
