  1. after i encode a .avi file in tmpgenc i can't view them in windows media player, divx player, or winamp! What am i doing wrong (is there a codec i have to d/l if so which one)?

    Did you encode it as an mpeg2.

    If so look on the left panel Other...Tools...Codec and Mpeg2 there is a free codec needed to view mpeg2 with the windows media player.
    There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  5. well i d/l the codec for mpeg 2 and now when i open it up with windows media player (9) it comes up with an error saying it needs some codec but then when i go to the site they tell me it says it is unavailable. help

    Just because you posted in the newbie conversion doesn't mean you are a complete newbie so its difficult for me to know your level of expertise.

    My first question to you was..... is it an mpeg2? I then said: If so look....

    Since you encoded it you must know if you intended to create a vcd (mpeg1) or svcd (mpeg2). The reason I asked that is because if it was an mpeg2 perhaps you were missing an mpeg2 codec. That's a common problem.

    You never answered the first question.

    Is it an mpeg2?


    By the way...

    I don't know if you know this but , you can also view mpeg with a software DVD player.

    I could ask other questions but lets deal with this first.
