It's funny how times change within a few months. I have seen the TDK VeloCD 16x/10x/40x/32x for as low as $129. On top of this great deal, you can get a $50 rebate. That is just unbelievable. I paid more than this for my Philips CDRW804

  3. If I order a Burner from America will it work in my Australian computer. Asking this because Americans work on 120 volts whilst Australia uses 240 volts. Does this affect computers?

  6. I've done a little update on the CDReWriters, and here are the cheapest ones from PriceWatch:

    CyberDrive 16x10x40 = 72$ (2mb Buffer and Nero Software)
BTC 16x10x40 = 74$ (no information was given, I presume OEM)
    Lite-On 16x10x40 = 76$ (2mb Buffer and Nero Software)

    Acer 20x10x40 = 90$ (2mb Buffer and Nero Software)
    Ricoh 20x10x40 = 93$ (2mb Buffer and Nero Software)
    Lite-On 20x10x40 = 93$ (2mb Buffer and Nero Software)

CenDyne 24x10x40 = 119$ (comes with Adaptec EZ CD Creator)
    Lite-On 24x10x40 = 131$ (no information, I presume OEM)
Sanyo 24x10x40 = 134$ (Comes with Nero Software)

I hope this helps you guys know what to choose next, I know what i'm satisfied for now with my Sanyo 16x10x40, and after this one, i'll propably got for a DVD-RW from Pioneer if it comes way down

This is comforting since I plan on buying that TDK burner which I think is very similiar to your Sanyo. Do they look pretty much the same with the blue tray?

Is sd2 protection something that cannot be eliminated with the more recent burners? What about the TDK?

Does the memory buffer really improtant? b/c the TDK is only 2MB while the Philips is 4MB although the Philips does not have "BURN PROOF".

  10. I love my plextor drives.. I have never had a cd
that I could not make a backup of.

I have had 3 plextor drives.. 1 scsi and 2 ide
My current drive is an 8/4/32a and I have also been
    using a 12/10/32 at a friends.

The new copy protection (safedisk 2) is able to be copied
by the plextors with 0 problems..

What you will notice , is that the copies may not want
to be played back in the plextor drives.. I believe
that is the part of the copy protection scheme.

Time and time again , I have noticed that alot of original
cd's wont want to play in my plexwriters , but they
play just fine in my dvd or cdrom drives.

Try your copy in a stardard cdrom drive or dvd drive and
    they should work just fine.

Here is a list of original games that have had trouble
reading in my plexwriter drives, but I was able to make
    perfect copies of.

    Revenant
    Diablo 2
    Red Alert 2
    Deus Ex

Oh.. BTW.. The Pioneer DVD writers are down to 651.00!!

    Almost low enough to purchase
