I have only been doing this stuff for about two weeks and have converted a number of DivX avi films to SVCD using TMPGEnc with no problems.

However I have a DivX of Training Day where the source avi aspect ratio appears squashed. I want to convert this to an SVCD to watch on my (non widescreen) TV, but the MPEG always turns out squashed also.

The source avi is 576x304 at 29.97 fps.

Any step by step help on how to do this would be appreciated.

  2. oook, here's wut u do
disable that stupid wizzard from TMPG
you open your AVI file(with the uncompressed audio of cuz)
ook, now click on LOAD (but to load an AVI file, but just, next to SETTINGs)
You open wut you want, i suggest you get SVCD NTSC(29.976fps)
    OPEN
    you click on SETTINGS
now, there are few things you can change now, but you need to change the Motion Search Presission: HIGHEST QUALITY VERY SLOW
    and
RATE CONTROL MODE select CONSTANT QUALITY
now, ask the settings of that
and change to number to 100

    next tab: ADVANCED
    mark GOIST REDUCTION
    NOISE REDUCTION
    Sharpen EDGE

    SOURCE ASPECT RATIO : 4:3 525 NTSC 704X480
VIDEO ARRANGE METHOD = FULL SCREEN KEEP ASPECT RATIO

don't touch the rest, that'll be ok

so, that should do the trick

    Thanks for your help

I had to use a source aspect ratio of 16:9 525 NTSC but the finished video looks much better.
