  1. hello everyone

i just bought the apex 1500 and hooked it up...

all of my svcd's that i put in glitch. as in unwatchable...
i thought the 1500 was the best for this?

i know the cd's are fine because i also have an Apex 500 and it plays them flawlessly

is there any tweaking you have to do in the config before hand?

  2. I have a APEX 5131 so I cant speak directly - but if it is known to work for others well , then I would think you have a faulty player and should get a replacment - because I know APEX is not known for quality control.
Ok - you got me - i dont know anything - you happy now!

I can't speak to the very latest Apex DVD players, but I can testify from firsthand experience that the Apex players seem to have a history of problems with both SVCDs and XSVCDs and DVD-Rs.
Specific example: Both the Apex 600 and the Apex 1100 have massive glitches when playing back SVCDs and XSVCDs suing 6 mbits/sec encoding.
Both the Apex 600 and the Apex 1100 outright refuse to play DVD-Rs. They start to load and then lock up. The player has to be shut down.
The Daewoo 7XXX/8XXX series seem to be much more forgiving on non-standard video formats and media. My Daewoo 7800 plays back SVCDs and XVCDs and XSVCDs that make my Apex 1100 barf. My Daewoo player also has no problem at all with DVD-Rs, whereas the Apex 1100 locks up and refuses to play a DVD-R.

  4. yes, the apex 1500 is known for being able to play all of these formats, especially svcd.

and it is not just this one. my brother has an apex1500 and has the same problem, it glitches really bad after the first couple seconds of play. yet my uncle has the same model and his works perfectly, like my Apex 500 does.

i just read comment after comment on how well the 1500 plays svcds, yet 2/3 of the ones i've tried first hand do not.
but, 9/10 comments say it works perfectly...

they play perfectly on mine. i did read some comments a while back that suggested players manufactured after april/this year,no longer supports svcd's. do a search on the forum for "apex 1500" you might find the thread.

I just bought a APEX 1500 for my daughter.
It wouldnt play any of my (S)VCD's without some kind of problem. It was new but the manu. date was March of 01.

I went to http://www.nerd-out.com/darrenk/1500/1500_firmware.htm found the right firmware and now it plays them flawlessly.

These have been out a while now so weather they work or not probably just depends on the firmware used at the time of shipping.
