  1. To make VCD/SVCDs?

    Ripper
    Encoder
    Author/Burn

    1. Smartripper
    2. TMPGEnc
    3. Nero

    I haven't worked out all the issues with 'still images' yet. But after a few spindles of CDRs, I getting close. Just kinda frustrated and wondering what the rest of you use to do this...

    Is there just one program that does all this? Well, one that is at least decent?

    For TV archiving...

    AVI_IO - capture
    Vdub - filter /split audio
    CCE - Encoding
    Toolame - mp2 encoding
    bbmpeg/Tmpgenc - multiplex
    VCDeasy - author/burn

    Produces excellent results, but is not for the faint of heart since many steps are involved and not everything is obvious ( registry editing, custom filters, ... ).

    I would recommend VCDeasy to anyone though.

    capture = Virtual VCR if I want high cap res or virtualdub for other stuff
    filters (deinterlace, resize, etc) = Virtualdub
    convert = Tmpg
    burn = Nero

    I am uncertain about what is gained from saving the wav and encoding it separately then muxing, I know how to do it but never noticed a difference...

    For still images, can't you open the video file with virtualdub and save individual frames?

  4. hehe a paradigm in effect

    The problem is not wanting the still images, the problem is wanting them to go away! During playback of svcd, there are still images, 'glitches' and I have no idea what is causing them...

    Ripper : DVDx or DVD encrypter
    DVDx if I want to encode imediately to mpg and DVD Encrypter if I want DVD to stay on my hard drive

    Encoder : DVDx
    Works fast. Average 9-11 hrs. TMPGenc might give better results but requires separate wav file (takes like 6-9 hours on my system) and then encoding takes 20 hrs. which is relly too much.

    Author/Burn : CDRDAO
    Since Nero doesn't work on my system (I got Easy CD creator bundeled), and easy cd creator doesn;t support VCD (have to upgrade to deluxe verison), I use cdrdao. Works great with generic drivers at 8x speed.

  6. (DVD)ripper=DVD2SVCD (using internal routine with software bundle
    (DVD)encoder= CCE 2.5 (sonn to be using 2.66)
    (DVD)Author/Burn= Nero

    (VHS/TV)Capturer=alternate between powervcrII & IUVCR
    (VHS/TV)Encoder=Cartoons->TMPGENC Everything else->CCE
    VHS/TV)Author/Burn=Nero

    To answer your question:
    Is there just one program that does all this? Well, one that is at least decent?
    , my experience has been to use DVD2SVCD. It does a FANTASTIC job on taking the "steps" out of the encoding process, etc.

    Encoder: TMPGEnc
    Authoring: TSCV

  8. Ripping : Smartripper
    Encoding : DVD2SVCD with CCE 2.5SP
    Burning : VCDEasy

    Job done Not the quickest way, but the results are very impressive !

  9. Panther and others, I am real curious to find out what you use something other than DVD2SVCD to do your rips (it shows that you use DVD2SVCD to do other stuff). I've looked at smartripper and a few others (guides and whatnot) and am trying to see a benefit to using a different program and then using DVD2SVCD?
