  2. step 1, turn off computer

    step 2, turn on computer

step 3, check bios to make sure you can boot off cd-rom drive, if so, set it to boot first

step 4, insert windows xp cd

step 5, boot up off windows xp cd

step 6, follow steps in setup to format your harddrive

and a couple of suggestions, back up any important data you have (documents, mp3's, movies, porn) & if you have multiple harddrives, unplug them except the primary master..

    good luck

  4. it kinda sounds like it might be your harddrive going out..

you might try pulling your harddrive and putting it on a friends computer and seeing if it will let you copy the data from drive to drive

when your computer first starts up (you may have to press escape to see this), it should indicate a key you need to push F2, DEL, F10 to enter bios or setup..

inside there you should see something along the lines of boot sequence or boot priority.. set your CD-ROM to be first so that you can boot up off the xp cd.

and yes, the xp cd will let you format your harddrive.

  6. well, they might run diagnostics on it.. but if you can, see if they can recover your data for you from the drive and then put it back on your drive after they've checked it out... or the new harddrive you may have to purchase..

DO you check for spyware often and clean out your startup items? I do tech support and 99% of lockup problems are caused by those things. HP Printer software can sometimes just up and decide to take up all the system resources and lock you machine... even when NOT printing... spyware has a way of finding it way onto even the most vigilant persons drive now and again... so if a reinstall fixes the problems and then they seem to come back its likely a problem with something loaded onto the box itself causing the problem....

If you ask me, and I've been doing this for almost 8 years 80% of all hardware repairs done by major OEMs turns out to be a software problem in the end... just some food for thought.

  8. Just say for example...it is a soft ware problem...what do i do??? I have already used adaware like 3 times on it like a month ago when this freezing started happening..BUt all it did was make the comp a lil faster...the freezing still went on..so opne could only think it is the hardware..or could it still be a soft ware prob?? I just dont wanna spend another 100 bucks on this comp and have it still freeze and shit..AGHH i cant take this anymore!!

    hit start, goto run, type
    msconfig

    then hit enter

goto the rightmost tab which says "startup". Practically anything listed can be turned off, except for "systray"
