  1. I need to know how to put my Hi-8 from Analog straight to MPEG2 on my hard drive. See my signature below for hardware I have. I want to transfer my Hi-8 video to DVD-R. I tried before but could only do AVI first to hard drive then I had to convert. I tried looking on this site for 4 hours for an answer. Now my head is spinning and I am confused. I would like freeware suggestions If needed. Thanks.

  2. Use the TV software in the ATI MultiMedia Center Software that came with your all-in-wonder video card. It is capable of capturing straight to mpeg2, unfortunately, the audio is not exactly DVD compliant.

  3. capturing to uncompressed avi, picvideo or huffyuv will always yield better results that capturing directly to mpeg2.. unless you have a really expensive mpeg2 hardware encoder.. use virtual dub or aviio to capture in one of the codecs i suggested and then use tmpgenc to convert it to mpeg2 dvd video.. it really is the best way, unless you're rich.

  4. by the by, all of the software & codecs i mentioned are freeware with the exception of the picvideo codec.. but if you know where you are, you can find what you're looking for *nose touche*

  5. I never installed the ATI multimedia software since the CD that came with the card was damaged and ATI wants $ for another one.
Anyone got any tips on which ATI multimedia (CDplayer, tv, capture) version I can dowload for free. What version is best for XP that is bug free and easy to install and got any links to where I can download for free. Thanks.

  6. Why the seller of your ATI-wonder can't replace the CD ?

Worst case, Get the software off ATI website.

You need to hack register a bit to do svcd capture.

About using tmpgenc to convert to Mpeg2 - doesn't that only give a trial period for using Mpeg-2? Are there freeware Mpreg 2 programs that can be used instead?

BBMPEG (I think it's called AVI2SVCD also). It's slow though. Check under the tools....

  9. I went to the ATI website and I could not find a place to download the full Multimedia Center for All in wonder-Radeon. What I did find is upgrades to newer versions which required the original install. If you know where I can get a full install version, please do tell.

  10. Try Ulead Moviemaker or Videostudio, it does capture direclty to compliant DVD video from your ATI card.

  11. I have an ati AIW radeon running on a p4 1.7 win XP machine. I capture right to dvd compliant mpeg2 (720x480, 29.97fps, 8mbs, interlaced video, 48khz audio) and burn to dvd-r using dvd-complete and a pioneer dvr-103.

Download the latest display driver, wdm capture driver, control panel, and MMC software from ATI... just go to the main ati page and head to the Support-->find a driver link. Note that the MMC software is on the the optional software page, it's not with all the other drivers.

For help installing refer to the "All-In-Wonder, VIVO, and TV Support" forum on the www.rage3d.com site. They have a sticky post there that gives all the steps you need to follow to insure a clean, problem free install of all the software.

  12. Thanks to everyone of you for the great info. I am almost there. I have decided to try and use my ATI hardware and the ATI MMC to do the HI-8 to DVD-R conversio.

I found the "ATI Clean Install" instructions on the site forum you mention. Great stuff. However, one of the steps is to install DVD-7-6. In order to install dvd-7-6, ATI says you have to have the original Multimedia CD. Which I do not. Any work arounds to install the latest ATI MMC without a CD????
