    i need a conversion software to converg mpeg and avi's to mpeg4.
    is it free and how do i obtain it? if not how much and where?

    If it is MPEG-1 and avi, you can use Virtual Dub (freeware). If it is MPEG-2 as well, registered TMPGEnc Plus, and the unexpired TMPGEnc (freeware), will convert to MPEG-4.
