I have become interested in video editing (mostly short video clips) on the computer. At this time, I do not want to buy a DVD burner untill they are more affordable and also they standardize format. (DVD-RW ,DVD+RW, DVD RAM who wins out?) I have been using a Sony Digital 8 Cam Corder, a firewire and ULead Studio 5 Templates (Highest quality Mpeg2 setting -Resolution NSTC 720 x 480 ) for compression. I then burn the compressed Mpeg2 files as a data cd. I know this is really not a format. (maybe similar to a miniDVD or a cDVD I guess.) However I get excellent quality, and believe it or not the cdr's do play in my standalone DVD player. ( Magnavox MDV450SL) Cdr discs are inexpensive and I'll sacrifice time on the cd (I only get about 20 min.) for quality. I want to go DVD in the future and the editing is alreay done on these data cd's to save time. Does anyone know if it will be easy to compile these compressed Mpeg2 data discs to DVD or should I go in a different direction?
This is a great website for information....Iam enjoying it very much....Thanks for reading and I would greatly welcome input or suggestions. Huskerboy5

what you are doing is the way to go and you should have no trouble with the MPEG2 files going to dvd at a later date.

You do need encode the audio at a 48000 sampling rate to be DVD compliant. 720x480 is the best resolution to use but you'll need to reencode the audio if you don't use 48000 audio sampling rate.
