  2. actually, i think you can just rename it .mpg. i think they just add extra meta tags and header info. you may want to remux in TMPG too. but i'm pretty sure it's just an MPEG with a different name.

    AzNDrAg0nBoi12,
Actually the easiest way to convert that file is to open it in the media center, right click on it, and select export to mpeg-2.

Open up the library, select the file, right click and export to MPEG-2. Sorry I should have made myself clearer.

  7. i use ati-all-in-one wonder but i don't use it to convert it to vcr. may i ask why you are using vcr format?

are you trying to record a tv clip or vcr clip?

i have tried to record a tv clip and a vcr clip and played with different format mpeg-1, mpeg-2, divx5.0, wmv and found out that the best quality of clip was wmv(windows media). the others, you noticed the quality was bad but wmv format, the clip was excellent.

for windows format, for a 700 mb, you can record up to 1 hour of clip with
resolution 640x480. this is what you can do if you try to fit these clips on a 700 mb cd.

you can either (1)record for one hour and then stop the recording and the vcr or (2)if you know how long the vcr tape is, then set the record setting for 2 hours if the vcr tape is less than 2 hours.

    1. rewind the vcr to the point when you stopped record and continue to record it again for the rest of the vcr clip.
    2. after 2 hours of recording, your file would probably be around 1.4 gb and therefore too big for one 700 mb cd. you cannot use virtual dub to split this file into 2 so that each can fit on a cd.

so use TMPGEnc to split it.

let me know how things work out for you.

ati calls their mpeg-2 files .mp2. export to that.
