    Hello,

I am having this interesting issue I am hoping maybe somebody else resolved (whining). I am trying to convert to SVCD an MPEG2 capture stream (vacation tape) from a Dazzle2 PCI card. All was working fine with a P3/850. After replacing the MB and CPU to an Athlon 1.33/Abit KT7A Raid, whenever I do the conversion, I lose the sound in the resulting MPeg. The same process works fine in different other machines tested (a P3/800 and a Duron 700 running on a SiS chipset). On the problematic MB I have the VIA chipset with the latest drivers. The problem does not appear if trying to convert a trailer VOB, just when converting an MPEG2 from the Dazzle. I tried various versions of TMPGEnc (12e, 12i that supposedly fixed this), DVD2AVI 1.74, 1.76 with the correct VFAPI plugins. Somehow I believe it is the VIA chipset. Also, I tried without DVD2AVI, I tried to demux first audio and video and then feed to TMPGEnc, with the same results. The funny thing is that TMPGEnc "hears" the audio in the incoming stream (if you go to advanced audio effects you can hear the sound), but in the resulting MPG there is only silence...
    Has anyone experienced this ?

    Thanks,

    D

  2. Yes, I have also this bad experience. The problem is that DVD2AVI can't decode a MPEG Audio to WAV. What I do is to open the MPA with WinAmp and convert it over the 0soft Disk Writer plug-in 1.0 to wav. After that I encode the video first and then the audio with TMPGEnc. Then I mux it with BBMpeg because with TMPGEnc it would be very synch and in BBMpeg you can set the interlaving.

Uh, but why would it happen only in the VIa chipset based MB and not on the others (Sis, Intel) ? Borderline ?
TMPGEnc understands the MPA file fine onthe other 2 boards. Weird.

If you look on the dazzle-europe web page there are warnings all over that some of there MPEG encoder cards have problem with VIA chipset motherboards.
I also have problems with my VIA MB and my Dazzle DVD master encoder card.

True, BUT... The video capture was done with the Dazzle initially on an Intel board. The Dazzle works fine on either the Intel or VIA based boards, is just TMPGEnc having an issue with the Dazzle generated MPEG2 while converting on the VIA board.
Maybe I should limp my way to the Dazzle EU site and read...

Now, in EU what is the equivalent of my evil Dazzle PCI card ? DVD Master ?
