    My *.avi works perfectly. good quality and the sound/audio is present, but when I use TMPGEnc to encode it to MPG1, the audio is gone.. I have just a video file... Did I miss something??

    Yep. You did not read the Newbie Guides.
    If you get audio errors, out of sync problems or bad audio or no audio at all
    Try to convert the audio to wav before converting.

    Since it took the file for audio too i thought it was "smart" enough to find the audio..but I guessed wrong!
