AWESOME SITE!
Obviously a n00b to this, so any info welcome
Problem:
I'm trying to make a (s)vcd onto an 80 min cd. The vcd turns out ok, quality is junk, but legible; svcd says (on this site it's supported), however when I put this into the dvd it says to check the disc. Does this mean svcd does not work? DVD Model=Toshiba SD-4700. Same program encoded both of these vcd and svcd, that being dvd copy plus, start with Smartripper, then dvdx and powercdR to write. I've also used Nero, and cant get even vcd to work here.
Goal:
To make backups of my dvd's, on the fewest possible medium available.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm open to different software (if given exact instruction) or even different hardware.
Also, I'm curious if anyone knows what the time converion is for movie time to MB, say a 90min DVD converted to VCD with common options.
Thanks!

AWESOME COMPUTER! Wish I had one like that.
1. Toshiba SD-4700 may not play SVCD. Check compatibility list on left.
2. Don't useDVD CopyPlus. All it does is bundle together some freeware and sell it for profit, which is highly unethical.
3. You can put 50 minutes film on a 800 MB CDR with very high quality, which translates into 15.8 MB per minute. -
Poplar,
Thanks for the response. A few more questions though.
The software you list at the end of your first post on this thread. Are these your suggestions for me to use? If so, what order-if any...
Also, the compatibility list does indicate that SD-4700 (I believe anyway, if I'm reading it correctly.) should play SVCD's, however all I get is a 'check disc' error. -
Yes your player will play SVCD's but you must burn them as non standard VCD's in NERO.
You will choose (in nero) to create a VCD. simply uncheck the "make compliant cd" box and then you player should play them.
