If you get audio errors, out of sync problems or bad audio or no audio at all, try to convert the audio to wav before converting.

    xiliance,

If you are having a lot of problems with TMPG, you might want to consider a different road.

Check out Media Studio Pro 6.5 DC from Ulead. You can convert your AVI to MPEG with little fuss and it does a great job in encoding. Sound is always in sync, and I never get micro blocks, etc.. In addition to encoding, MSP will give you greater editing capabilities. You can also capture with it too. That would be 3 steps you can do with one program.

You can download a trial copy of Media Studio Pro from
    http://www.ulead.com/msp/runme.htm
They also offer upgrade offers from other editing software – so you can get it as cheep as $129.00 for the DC version.

It’s up to you, but it is FREE to try…

    Good Luck!

  8. I also have an avi that plays fine but when I used tmpgenc it came out with no sound. I brought up virtual dub to get info on it & it is 23.976 fps, decompressor is divx mpg-4 low motion, & the compressor is fraunhofer IIS mpg layer 3 codec.
I downloaded media studio but when the new box pops up at the beginning, I'm seeing 29.97 fps, 25, fps, but not the 23.976 fps like I'm used to seeing in tmpgenc. Perhaps I'm off he mark here & just haven't gotten the grasp of things, as maybe this isn't what I think it is? but I'm not sure.
When you go to file, covert, video file, under the general options, 23.976 is there, so is that really where you're supposed to choose it? Also, if changing an avi to mpg for a vcd, it has to be done in 2 parts because it'll be too large. Under the cropping option, it doesn't seem like that's really what you're supposed to do there, chop it is 2, as it doesn't have any way to save the setting it appears to me. So, are you supposed to covert it & then cut it in 2 to make to vcds? And, how easy is that to do then? I'm guessing you can do it with this program also? This just get more & more confusing every time I try it again.
