  1. does anyone out there know if there are any programs i can use to capture only parts of a dvd...i.e. a death scene from a horror movie. I am making a website for horror films and need to find a way to capture moments like that so i can put them on my site for download. Any ways to capture audio would be appreciated as well.

I would like to know the answer, as well. (Though for a different project)

If I have to put the whole thing on my hard drive, so be it, but if I can just cut out a number of 2-5 second scenes, so I can put them together in one 3 to 5 minutes worth of clips (Like a movie trailer) that would be great.

I saw this question somewhere else, but I guess I'm not using the correct key words in the search to find the post again.

I WILL copy and paste the answer to notepad for future reference this time.

  3. Since you are using video over the Net, compression rather than quality is the main concern. You can do it with a capture card via RCA video in or S-Video in from your DVD player. Just start capturing from the scene you want and stop when it is finished. Depending on your CPU speed, you can directly capture to DivX with a low resolution, which is ready for your site.
What's needed: a capture card, VirtualDub (freeware)

If you want high quality with high resolution, you should use a ripper to rip the program chain which contains the scene you want and then convert it to format you want. But it requires several software and some knowledge to get good result.
