    Mike229,
You need to post some details on your encoding process before anyone can help. For example whether or not you used 1 pass or 2 pass encoding, what your minimum and maximum bitrates were ect. Just off the top of my head anytime you see excessive amounts of block noise it's due to too low a bitrate. Need more info.

Ok dO i have this straight...

    When watching a (VCD/SVCD/OTHER ) on my ( COMPUTER/DVD PLAYER ) off of a ( 74 minute/ 80 minute/90 minute/99 minute ) CD-R you often get blocks that look like ( reduced resolution / rainbow colors / misplaced video all over the screen ) for a few seconds.

If you fill in the blanks I think we can help. It sounds like your DVD player may not like the type or speed of your cd-r media.

The fact that it got worst with the latest version of tmpgenc is more likely because you had a default template setting which is no longer available. Most of us don't go with loaded defaults but either use templates (available on the left panel) or manually tweak the settings (bitrate, noise filters, resize et....).

If it only happens with 1 movie then it could be that particular video itself that has a problem but if it happens with all your movies then it points to your settings.

Why not try an svcd template look on the left under other...tools...tmpgenc templates and see if one suits your needs.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

    Mike229,
Aside from the fact your trying to convert from NTSC to PAL which in itself has too many issues to list here, I still think your max/min/average bitrate settings are way to low. One thing you never mentioned was how does the original avi look on playback? If your source material has a lot of noise in it to begin with your final result after encoding isn't going to be any better. Also what burning software are you using? Going back to my original post that's why I suggested posting some more details. All were doing here is a guessing game. The more details you post on your encoding/burning process the more specific the answer can be.

  10. SORRY here we go.
Avi file is perfect no noise!
Am using nero 5.5.9.9 to burn disk. Tryed all diffrent burn speeds.
Am using 2 pass vbr min=300 max=2520 av=1971. Not changed this. These are the values given by TMPGEnc.
Soften block noise on Both at 35.
Aubio has been extacted by vitudud.
Not altered any noise reduction settings!

Any more info i can give!

You say you use Nero to burn - are you sure Nero is not reencoding the MPEG? That would reduce the quality for sure!

Not sure it will, either - Nero has a mind of it's own. Make a try with VCDEasy instead!

Nero will not re-encode without warning you first. Mike, where did this AVI file come from? Is it a from a CAM?

Do these blocks show up in high actions scenes? Are they just kind of a distortion (smokey) appearance, or are they actually different colors, like bright green, or pink?

Judging from the amount of problems people seem to have, clearly coming from Nero reencoding what's already a perfectly legitimate XVCD mpeg, Nero is obviously not too clear about its intentions...
