  1. I am suffering from this problem so last night after 4 hours, I gave up and went to bed. Now I'm up again hoping someone can help me with this problem.

I have Ulead VideoStudio 6 open. I am in the "Capture" section and I am watching the television program with sound. There are three choices for "format" - AVI MPEG and DV. If I choose AVI or DV - then begin capturing - then stop capturing and replay what I captured, I have video and audio. If I choose MPEG I end up only with video and no sound. SO,
I go to "Options" then "Capture Options" and "video capture" is checked but "audio capture" is greyed out (along with "force to use preview mode"). When under AVI or DV the audio capture is not greyed out and I can manually make the choice to have sound or not. Again with MPEG audio seems to NOT be an option.

If I go to "Options" "MPEG Settings" it gives you the choice of "Special settings" where you can set up either MPEG 1 or MPEG 2 at 320, 352 or 720 etc. . . . in size. There is also an audio tab there and when I click on it the audio choices are greyed out UNLESS I go and change the special setting to "User defined 1" and then the "MODE" "Audio Bit Rate" and "Sampe Rate" are no longer greyed out. But it doesn't matter because when I return to "Options" "Capture Options" the audio capture is still greyed out. (I was trying to be as detailed as possible here).

I dont' know why this is doing this. I can capture AVI and DV just fine but MPEG (what I really want), is greyed out for audio. The tech staff at ULEAD told me to check my settings in Windows and make sure Line In is selected for recording sound. It is (or else AVI's audio wouldn't work).

I could really use some help on this.

HELP ME PLEASE IF YOU CAN.

    Thank you.

I will repeat. Line in, from the little speaker on your desktop, can be activated and you will get no sound until you select line in, also, using your mixer from the sound card. Note: these are two distinct items I am referring to. Find the mixer icon in your sound card folder and activate it to line In. I had the very same problem. I capture with Virtual DUb(it's better) and clip and edit with it. I use VS6 for special effects only, and burn with CDRWIN & VCDImagerGUI. In Virtual Dub you will not hear sound because it uses VFW instead of WDM. Howver, when I play back it is perfect, and that's what counts.

My line in is selected under Windows. The problem is my

OPTIONS > CAPTURE PROPERTIES > AUDIO CAPTURE PROPERTIES

Wherein they are all "greyed out" for some reason.

    Can't figure it out.

  4. I am so exhausted. While I truly understand that people have their own problems to contend with and while I truly understand that it is hard to help someone from a distance, I just don't know how else to explain this problem.

For some strange reason the sound records when I select the AVI or DV format but whenever I click on the MPEG format the audio does not record. I can hear audio in the preview window just fine. I can record audio to AVI and DV just fine. But there is some problem with MPEG only audio.

I cannot get this. I have tried the suggestions above. However I don't know what this mixer is unless he is talking about the windows picture of a mixer in which I am supposed to select line in which I did a long time ago which is the reason I can capture sound and audio in other programs and with AVI and DV in Ulead? When I go to Options > Capture Properties > Audio Capture Filter > Audio Input Mixer Properties - the master input mix is likewise greyed out (as in I cannot select to enable it).

If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. God I feel so stupid and dumb. That university degree means didley.

Why dont you just capture the avi file and convert it with tmpgenc or cce. If your capturing directly to mpg in videostudio the quality will not be so good anyway. I have not heard of being able to capture directly in mpg in video studio but from what you said it is possible.
