  1. i am converting Ice Age DVD Rip to SVCD...and before converting i used this bitrate calculator: http://www.vcdhelp.com/calc.htm

the bitrate calculator told me to use an average bitrate of 2441kbps and 224kbps audio...and i set it to be 2 * 80min CDs

at 43% converting with tmpgenc, i calculated the final output file size and it came out to be about 1627mb total

each (s)vcd can only hold about 800mb total right? and this is going to be about 27mb over...

i am wondering if it is just a slight miscalculation (hopefuly) since each percent takes a while to go over to the next...

  2. If that is the final size you could always overburn 13.5mb to each disc.

  3. The calc of vcdhelp is superb. Maybe you had a final size of;
1,627,000 kB ?? To get MB's you have to use x/1024 instead of x/1000....
Or simply use rightclick in Windows Explorer on file and watch the properties of the file, their you'll see the MB instead of kB.

Besides overburn is indeed a good trick.... 13 MB per disc must be possible.

Personallu I always choose a rate a little (25) lower then the calc tells me to use, that way I have some space left to search for a natural break / scene change between the 2 discs. Cutting at 48% is possible then. Sometimes cutting at 50% exactly is not the finest place to cut.

  5. Might it be possible that your writer doesn't support overburn ? In that case it's risky to try....might end up with a broken burner.

  6. is overburn something that would be listed on the manufacturer's website, it doesn't seem like it is something that they would like much...

    i have a Samsung SW-232 32x10x40x drive..the website is here: http://www.samsungusa.com/cgi-bin/nabc/product/b2c_product_detail.jsp?employeeLogin=&prod_id=SW-232

does anyone know a place wehre they list if burners support overburn or not, it would be appreciated thanks.

  7. Nero can tell you wether the writer supports OVERBURN.
Just select; RECORDER --> SELECT RECORDER
And you will see a list of properties for your recorder.
One of them is OVERBURN, and behind it you'll read "SUPORTED" or NOT SUPPORTED"

But knowing it's a 32x speed burner I am almost sure it supports overburn.

    Sounds pretty good to me.
