    I don't know if this is old news to the community, but since it's not listed in the tools section, and I've heard none mention it, I thought I'd share this gem, Tomas Zavodny's AVI/(X)(S)VCD Bitrate Calculator that's released as freeware (as almost all of the best of the best are - don't we love 'em! ).
    Full featured (to me, at least), suggestions on resolution at given encoding method/bitrate, fit-to-cd...
    I never encode anything before consulting this app.
