I just wanted to understand why there does not seem to be the same player compatibility problem with mass produced dvds that there is with pc produced variety, or am I being naive. thanks matthew

Mass produced DVD's are pressed, burned DVDr's and CDr's are burned. Basically they have a different reflectivity wavelength.

not only are commercial dvd's pressed instead of being burned, but they are also tested on a variety of dvd players before they are released to make sure they are compatible with the vast majority of machines. the last thing a studio wants is to go through an expensive recall.
