I'm about to archive my wedding video onto a set of cds. I'm using Virtualdub's multisegment feature, to create a batch of files that will fit on individual cdrs.
My source is a Hi8 tape, roughly 45 minutes of video. I know that Hi8 has 400 lines of resolution, but I don't know how to translate that into capture size. The research that I did was a little too technical for me to understand.
Anyway, my goal is to archive the footage, preserving as much information as possible.
Should I capture at 720X480, or is this overkill for the amount of information?

If capturing at 720x480 is fine, how about 480x480? Which one is more appropriate with this kind of source and the recommended data rate for a good quality capture?
Thanks in advance! -
well the best data rate is the highest you can go without dropping any frames ..
I suggest D1 or 1/2 D1 for cap'ng from hi8 ...
some would say cap'ng at 704x480 is also good -- and it is a valid resolution also ...
im a believer to cap always at the max your system can handle and go down from there -- the better the source - the better the end product ..
