Try looking in your power settings. Disable the hard drive shutdown, and any standby, or powerdown modes. You should also check to ensure those are disabled in your PC's bios if necessary.

Other than those obvious points, it could be anything causing your lockup, from power surges, overclocking, overheating, etc.

  4. hi,
i have had the same problem, and i found that changing my bios settings for memory timing and agp aperture helped slightly, andwhile it still crashes it isn't quite as often. i am going to fiddle around with my hard drive shutoff settings later, and if they work for tmpgenc plus i will post on this thread and let you know.

One other piece that I can think of. Disable your screen saver. Set your monitor to turn off instead (display applet in your control panel). I've seen issues with screen savers, and video hardware/drivers cause lockups too.

  6. tha DJ is right, since screensavers eat up pc resources, but turning off the monitor doesnt

doesn't what? (don't you hate it when you do that?)

I mention the monitor off setting only to give an option instead of the screen saver, and to eliminate possible problems.
