  1. I purchased an ATI TV Wonder VE card and am trying to capture from my camcorder. The capture works and it creates an MPEG2 (.mp2) file, but when I try to burn it in DVD Movie Factory, it says it's not a compliant MPEG file, and trying to open it in Virtualdub gives the message: MPEG Import Filter: Pack Syncronization Error. What is going wrong?

  2. I forgot to mention, I am using the ATI TV 7.1 software to do the capture.

    buch75,
VirtualDub doesn't support MPEG-2 hence the error message and without more information about your capture settings anything I say beyond this would be mere speculation.

  4. The ATI capture software is set up as follows:

    Video: 640 x 20 NTSC (525), 8 MBit/Sec
Audio: 44.100 KHz, 16 Bit Stereo
    Visual Masking
MPEG Output Stream - Current Frame Sequence Settings:
    I BB P BB P BB P BB P BB I
Number of P Frames in Group: 4, Number of B Frames in Subgroup: 2

    Thanks,
    Ed B.

    buch75,
Sorry for the late reply but it a been a while since I've had a chance to catch up.
    Try these settings:
    Video 720x408 8Mbit/sec
    Audio 48KHz 16 bit stereo
    # of P frames 4
    # of B frames 2
    # of I frames 1
GOP structure should look something like this:
    I BB P BB P BB P BB P BB I
    *edit*
I went over to the ATI site and it looks like your going to have to upgrade your version of MMC to capture at that resolution. As of this date the only thing I see posted is a beta version of MMC 7.6 for your card: http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/misc/mmc7-6b-tvwonder.html
Like the article says use it at your own risk, but maybe someone else in the forum could give some feedback on this one way or the other.

  6. Frankly, if there's enough hard drive space, this gent might do better to capture straight to AVI, edit or whatever from there, and convert it into whatever final format he wants.

However, if it's high resolution he wants (better than what ATI offers) he'll probably have to use the generic capture drivers available from Sourceforge, and capture in VirtualDub.

    Anyone else have any ideas?
