  1. Is there a patch available so I can use DVD player 3.2 to play a DVD from a Firewire drive without having an internal DVD drive? Apple's DVD player just tells me it can't find the DVD drive so it quits preventing me from playing a DVD from other sources (such as a folder on the hard drive or external DVD drive).

  2. You could use vlc to play DVD's. Thats if you have a G4 and running OSX 10.1 or higher Download here http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=14738&db=mac

  3. Unfortunately I have a G3 600Mhz imac. So VLC doesn't work to well.

But I have found a fix if anyone is interested. This is for DVD player 3.2 under Jaguar.

    Download HexEditor from
    http://hexedit.sourceforge.net/

" Notes on 3.2 DVDPlayer on Unsupported machines:"

    1. gunzip file to your Desktop from (Part 1 & 2 is to install DVD player if you don't already have it installed)
    /Volumes/Mac OS X Install Disc 1/System/Installation/Packages/ Essentials.pkg/Contents/Arhive.pax.gz

    2. Extract application package in Terminal.app
% cd ~/Desktop/ (~ is your home directory)
    % pax -r -s /./Applications*/ -f Archive.pax

    3. And Patch it with binary editor such as HexEditor
    DVDPlayer.app/Contents/Frameworks/
    DVDPlayback/Versions/A/DVDPlayback
    offset 0F5210: change "40 82" to "48 00"
    offset 0F78F0: change "40 82" to "48 00"

    4. Then you can play DVD with Jaguar on your PreG3 PCI PowerMacs with ATI, various G3/G4 cards, and power of [Xpostfacto] XPF2.2! This was found at XLR8 your mac forum!

    Hope this helps someone.
