  1. Hi peeps, new to this so please help me out. I have a vcd which has been created in letterbox but i would like to convert it to full screen. Can someone point me in the right direction or am i wasting my time. I have created two .mpg files using vcdgear but now i want to increase the screensize. Thanx in advance for any help. P.S. preferably using freeware programs.

I know what ya mean, Letterbox format sucks bigtime, it doesn't matter if's on DVD Format or VCD/SVCD. Even on a wide screen TV it still sucks.

Anyway if your VCD is of good quality you could always use Virtual Dub to framserve to TMpegnc and make it either Fullscreen or Widescreen but with the borders more to an amamorphic widescreen.

But if you decide to go this road, you will still loose quailty in the conversion.

There are plenty of guides here on VCDhelp that will tell you how to do it just goto the MENUS on the left and look for them.

Both TMPEGnc and VirtualDub can be found in the Tools section on the left.

Maybe someone else will give you an alternative method to mine, but either way you will loose some quality in the converison unless the VCD you have is of Really Excellent quality then the lost will be minimal.

unforunatly the only way that i know is to re-encode the file=(additional loss of quality) in tmpeg, in the main setup screen(setings)video tab, aspect ratio, choose 4:3 pal or ntsc whichever is your format, then under the advanced tab, video arrange method, choose full screen no margin. give it a shot and see what happens
