  1. Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the right section but I am a newbie so here I go.

I have a DVDrip of a movie but its been given to me on 2 CD's, both files are .avi and what I want to do is join them together and then reduce the file size so the whole film will fit on 1 CD.

Please could you give me some advice on how I can do this and what tools I need.

The info for the first disk is:

    Frame rate:23frames/per second
    Data Rate: 176kbps
    Video Sample Size: 24bit
    Video Compression: DIVXMPG4 v3

I haven't finished getting the second disc but I think its the same.

Well thanx in advance for any help recieved.

my advice: spend the extra $ for a second cd. by the time you get this on one cd,the quality of your video will be gone 8)

  3. Cheers mate,

I would use an extra disc but its for a friend and he asked me if I could put it on 1 disc.

I have joined the 2 avi files together and was wondering if there was anyway to reduce the file size from 1.36 GB to 700mb ?

the only way i know of to do that would be to re-encode the file(you will be able to stipulate the final file size). this will result in poor quality tho.

Run them thru VirtualDub and use DixX(5) encoder. Using a bitrate calc, you can get a bitrate that lets you fit the movie on one CD, once you know the length of the movie. But, as said, beware - Trying to squeeze 1.36 GB worth of movie down to 700 MB will result in really low picture quality.
