  1. Hi ppl,

I am new to this and am looking for the best way to
    do things.

I am trying to convert all my existing tape collection
    (PAL format)
into digital format and i am looking for BEST result.

If the above is my aim. I should capture in high-res
and when converting to MPG using TMPEnc, I should set
source as Interlaced and use a DeInterlace filter yes?

Also, can i safely assume making a VCD should NOT be my
aim if i am looking for best result? What should I be
aiming to produce at the end of the day?

I know I should have done some research b4 i post but
I just wasted a week burning 8 VCDs which has CONSTANT
annoying JERKS all over the place... and i really need to
find and solve the problem b4 i go crazy.

    Thank you for your time.

    Klick the newbie... obviously.

  2. I asked this question some time ago - the consensus was that you capture in the highest resolution you can in the lowest compression.

Yep, try and keep compression for re-encoding below 10:1 preferable in lossless 2.5:1 huffyuv, but we don't all have the space for that.

I would say for a beginer you should capture at your output resolution VCD = 352x240. If you are more advanced or are going for SVCD capture at full frame 480 scanlines, but be aware that full frame has drawbacks as interlacing really can make a mess of your video.

  4. Thanks for the tip.

btw, I keep hearing peeps talking about VirtualDub.
It seems really popular but I can't get it to work
in mine. I've a AIW Radeon and have followed instructions
and I can see my card in VDub but the video shown is
REALLY REALLY bad... maybe it didn't know the source was
PAL and not NTSC... where do I set this in VDub?
If I use ATI's capture sw ... it is fine.

    Thank you for your time.

    Klick.

  5. VDub is good, but for just capturing I like AVI_IO better. I get less dropped frames with AVI_IO, but that could just be my setup. But then I'm new to capturing so what do I know
