I have a foreign Hong kong vcd/mpg, and am hoping there is a way to isolate the language tracks. Cantonese comes out of the right speaker, and the mandarin comes out in the left.
I am assuming this is a mono audio track, since it is a vcd, is there a way to check that?
I want to isolate the audio track for the cantonese language and reburn the vcd using this as the sole audio track.
My question is whether there is a way to do this? Namely, to isolate the cantonese track and reburn the mpg using this audio track for it. I am making a guess that virtual dub or tmpgenc is the way to go with this, but I have little more understanding than that.
If anyone could help me out with this, I would really appreciate it.
Thnx

Use VCDGear or CDXA2MPEG to copy over the MPEG track / DAT file in question.
If you want to re-author the whole VCD (say it has menus and chapters that you want to preserve), then first extract the disc as a CUE/BIN image (use CDRDAO or CDRWin) and then use VCDXRIP on the image to extract everything.
(CDXA2MPEG and VCDXRIP are components of the VCDImager suite of proggies. You can use VCDImager Tools GUI or VCDEasy as a GUI if you don't like using the command console).
With your MPEG, use TMPGEnc --> MPEG Tools --> Simple Demultiplex to demux your mpeg(s) to the elemental video and audio.
Use Winamp to save the MP2 audio to a WAV file.
Open up the WAV file with an audio editing proggy like CoolEdit.
Copy one of the channels over the other one.
Save your WAV file.
Use TMPGEnc or your favourite MPEG encoder to re-encode the audio (MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio at 224 kbit/s). With TMPGEnc, it is recommended that you download and use the tooLame plugin.
Use TMPGEnc --> MPEG Tools --> Simple Multiplex to remux your video and new audio together (make sure you change the setting to "MPEG-1 Video-CD").
Reauthor your VCD.
To preserve old menus/chapters etc., then go to the folder where you've used VCDXRIP to disassemble the VCD and replace the old MPEGs with your new ones (make sure they are named the same).
Use VCDXBUILD (another VCDImager proggy -- you can again use VCDImager Tools GUI or VCDEasy as a GUI) to remake another CUE/BIN image.
Burn with CDRDAO, CDRWin or Nero.

thnx much for the info. Just one quick thing, I am not familiar with Cooledit, was hoping to use a free ware program, or does the demo of cooledit do what I need it to? I currently have beSweet, but I don't think it can copy one audio channel over the other, but then again, I am not too familiar with how to do that in general. I appreciate the aforementioned help, especially so quickly, and ask for just that bit of information
Thnx again.

You don't necessarily need CoolEdit... The demo of CoolEdit is probably fine.
You could use GoldWave (??) or something similar.
For instance, there is an audio editing proggy that comes with my SoundBlaster Live card that would be more than adequate for that function.
