  1. As a newbie with two weeks experience in burning/authoring DVDs I'm trying my best to do research before posting questions but am unable to solve this latest dilema.

I'm trying to convert a divx, xvid format to a DVD thus far without luck. I have installed the xvid codec on my machine and the xvid movies play fine. I have tried Showbiz. It recognizes and allows me to load the file but when I go to execute the conversion I immediately get a "Showbiz has encountered an error and needs to shut down" (winxp). I tried DVDIT. I set up the authoring and the program says it needs to transcode the file and is able to do that but shortly after the transcoding of the video starts, I get another error saying DVDIT needs to shut down (winXP) and on my win98 machine, the program just locks up. I was able to convert the file using TMPGEnc but there is no audio and I can't figure out why.

Any help in mastering this would be appreciated. Ideally of course, I would like to do it thru DVDit as it all can be done in one step. I have tried this with two divx xvid movies thus far.

Have you installed the Nimo Codecs as well? If you have, then you should in my opinion, scan the video in Virtual Dub any erros, load your DivX file into TMPGEnc load your template for DVDs, and then encode.
